Darryl Swann

FOUNDER, CHAIRMAN & DIRECTOR

Darryl founded DataSentinel with the vision of hiring only the very best people, giving them a great place to work, and in so doing providing unrivalled service to its Clients. Now, in his role as Chairman & Director he works alongside the business to implement the strategy and long-term goals of the Company.

He has created, bought, and sold many companies over his 30-year career in the Information Technology industry, and was a pioneer for datacentre and cloud services in the NZ market.

Darryl also founded CCL (Computer Concepts Ltd) in 1990, starting as a one-man band. Darryl sold CCL in 2015, which is now owned by Spark employing over 700 people.

He is, when the time permits, an avid squash player and is passionate about rugby (don’t stand between him and the referee). He is also a master of the quizzes printed in the tops of Speights bottles.

Paul Capstick

CEO & DIRECTOR

Paul has been in the industry for nearly 20 years. The last 10 years of which have been in senior leadership positions for CCL - working alongside Darryl. When the opportunity came for him to continue doing so, he jumped at the chance.

During his time at CCL he was responsible for establishing and growing many of the regional offices, partnerships with suppliers and resellers, along with being a key contributor to CCL’s merger & acquisition programme of work.

Like Darryl, Paul is passionate about his clients. One of his commitments for DataSentinel is to ensure that clients are always the primary focus of everything that it does.

In his younger years, Paul was a representative sportsman in both cricket and soccer - he has now resigned himself to be an avid sports watcher. In addition, Paul enjoys spending his time with friends and family.

Tim Brown

CLIENT SERVICES DIRECTOR

Tim’s’ focus is to build long term relationships with our clients by ensuring that they receive premium service from all facets of our Company. 

As the Client Services Director, Tim meets with our clients and potential clients, listens to their functional requirements and then works alongside the Development Team to design the best solution for their needs. Tim is also a highly experienced Pre-Sales Architect, defining the support requirements of new configurations, optimisation of existing configurations and assistance with the complexities of migrations.

Tim has 20 years industry experience both in New Zealand and abroad and has extensive experience with Dynamics AX SQL configurations.

Outside of work, Tim often communicates with golf course bunkers and enjoys relaxing with his family.

Rob Douglas

PRINCIPAL CONSULTANT

Rob’s role is to lead the team that provides consultation services to both public and private sectors within New Zealand.

Rob has spent well over a decade in the data industry and his experience and ability was significantly important to his clients when they suffered data and infrastructure loss in the Christchurch earthquake in February 2011.  His knowledge, agile thinking, and his ability, both in problem solving and database administration, ensured that his clients’ businesses were able to access their data as quickly as possible after this catastrophic event.

Rob is proud to be working in a Company whose priority is to listen to Clients’ needs and focus on providing the best service available in New Zealand.

Dean McMillan

PRINCIPAL DEVELOPER

Dean heads up the development team and is responsible for designing and building the tool sets that our clients and in-house DBA’s use.

The “behind the scenes” of these tool sets are complex to say the least, and to be able to present these in user friendly, intuitive, stable, and highly available applications is the measure of Dean’s ability.

Dean has been in the IT industry for approximately 30 years both in New Zealand and abroad. This extensive time within the industry has allowed Dean to broadly develop his skills in order to be adaptive and remain current as the technologies evolve.

Dean is a great communicator and this skill assists him when he is coaching kids’ rugby and cricket teams and he enjoys this immensely.

Jon-Henri Quin

PRINCIPAL DBA

Jon-Henri leads the DBA team and he is the primary contact person for the escalation of any issues Clients may have.

Jon-Henri has been in the IT industry for approximately 18 years, 16 of which have been in the SQL space as a Senior SQL Consultant.

Jon-Henri’s goal is to assist the entire team to become the “top of mind” provider for SQL support services. He enjoys being interactive with clients, listening and working with them in a collaborative manner which is a crucial component of his role.

Jon-Henri enjoys most sport codes and DIY projects but admits that the latter can sometimes wear thin!

Phil Smith

SENIOR CONSULTANT

Phil is our Consultant for the Central Region from Gisborne to Wellington. A role that sees Phil being responsible for understanding the technical requirements of the client base in this region, he is based in Napier.

Phil is an experienced IT consultant with more than 20 years in the industry with various consulting roles both in the UK and Aotearoa/NZ. He excels in designing highly available systems and assisting clients upgrade or migrate their database systems into a cloud environment, Phil is Microsoft certified as an Azure Database Administrator Associate.

Phil enjoys being part of strong teams, witnessed by the fact that he sails and navigates traditional Waka throughout the Pacific region. He is also teaching the next generation this exceptional skill.

Leo Miller

SENIOR CONSULTANT

Leo is the DataSentinel Senior Consultant for the Northern Region, based in Auckland and focusing on the Upper North Island.  

Leo has been working with SQL Server for over 23 years, with more than 12 years’ experience in the Financial sector as well as 11 years as a Senior Consultant. As a Senior Consultant Leo has worked with a vast range of clients be it small, single server environments through to some of the largest environments in New Zealand within Health, Government, Financial, Energy and the Retail sectors. Leo’s client focus is on ensuring clients get what is best aligned for their businesses, in terms of Performance, High Availability, Disaster Recovery and Total Cost of Ownership.

Leo is also a regular contributor to international SQL Server forums, presenting at SQL Server Conferences and delivering customised SQL training where he is renowned as a specialist in Performance Tuning for bespoke and off the shelf applications like Dynamics AX, SAP and JDE.
